I just upgraded from the version because I have a new computer with Windows 7 and my previous version, although it met my needs, seemed like it was old enough to get a newer version. Installation was a breeze and went quickly. Moving the company file from one computer to another was actually easy, but not because the directions were good. The installation quick start guide refers you to help to find out how to move.

But Help doesn’t have directions for the prior version I had. It told me to do something my version didn’t do.

However a simple back-up to a thumb drive and restore on the new system got the old file in and updated to the new version. Registration was a royal pain! First you have to type in a bunch of information into their web site, then you have to enter a long code and product number from the box. Then you have to call a phone number, probably in India, and talk to someone who does not speak clear English.

Then you have to repeat much of the information you previously typed in. Including some stuff which is just designed to open a sales pitch for more add-on services.

Why do they ask whether I process credit cards on the web site, then tell me on the phone message while I am waiting for a real person that they have credit card processing service, then ask again during the phone call, then pitch a free trial of the credit card processing service? My other gripe is that with early versions of Quickbooks, Intuit provided a year or two of tax table service with each version so that you could do basic payroll.

This is now only available at what I consider an outrageous price for a person company. Another gripe with Intuit is that their interface between Turbotax and Quickbooks only works for a version back of Quickbooks. This makes no sense to me when Intuit can easily upgrade the company file to the current version during installation. Why can’t Turbotax use the same function to import Quickbooks data into Turbotax?

Although I am optimistic the basic accounting features will be at least as good as older versions, I wonder how many features I will run across that need a something new I have to pay for in order to use them.

I can’t give this product more than two stars when the registration process is so convoluted and it doesn’t include basic tax tables. Verified Purchase. It got the job done for the most part but would occasionally make errors that never allowed me to fully trust the software. The easiest would be to be able to add the memo to the columns in invoices view- but alas, year after year I kept buying the new version and they never responded to my suggestions or added this feature.

So I tested QB and found you can simply add the memo field to column view- so i bought it. Then when I went to add my first check scan to a payment it prompts me to sign up for a paid service to do so.

Ok, seriously? Pay for a basic feature I have been using in a lesser product for years- to attach a local image to a local transaction?? On top of that I find the interface far less than intuitive and unappealing. In the end I am left with the same frustrating feeling I have had w Intuit for years- no good alternative and a company that is unresponsive and produces no forward-thinking software.

I am now back to Quicken and I was lucky in the end to figure out I can simply add and “e” or date to the end of the invoice number so as to easily see status of my outstanding invoices were they sent to client and when.

The icing on the cake is the fact that I cannot get credit or refund for digital download product from Amazon. I was excited to get QuickBooks and make my business run easier with it. After seeing some reports and importing my transactions, I was very happy, but got disappointed with lack of basic features with QuickBooks and adequate help. I have used Excel based templates to completely manage my small consulting business for years, including payroll.

I end up creating another account, and even when the new bank account is inactive, it downloads statements. There is mystery around “Undeposited Funds”. When I match a “deposit” in my downloaded statement to an open invoice, the transaction goes under “Undeposited Funds”. Incidently, I have a laptop that originally ran Windows 7.

I had installed the Quickbooks on that system several years ago. I finally upgraded to Windows 10, and the QB still runs perfectly well that laptop.
